Foreword

With FESTIVAL AFRIQUE-CARIB a musical platform is created where a diverse population of different cultural backgrounds get the chance to meet, share information and exchange personal experiences. Moreover we program music genres and artists that are unknown by the larger Dutch public. One of the genres is the Soca (Southern Caribbean) which originates from the Southern part of the Caribbean area. Most English islands' music is dominated by Soca.

Meet the initiator

Ylanga Blinker, the initiator of the festival, was born in The Netherlands from Surinamese parents, lived in Suriname as a child and was raised on St. Maarten. She moved to the Netherlands to further her studies and resides there now. In April 2005 she decided to start her own foundation in the Netherlands called Afrique-Carib Breathtaking Foundation.
