History

Ylanga Blinker, initiator of FESTIVAL AFRIQUE-CARIB has lived in Almere since May 2000 and since then noticed a mayor migrations flow of foreigners to this city. Unfortunately this migration doesn't go hand-in-hand with a connection to and with the Dutch population here and vice versa. This trend isn't only a local one, it is also seen in the rest of The Netherlands.

Due to her work experience in The Gambia she became aware of the many Dutch and non-Dutch people and organisations that contribute to sustainable development and/or integration and participation.

Unfortunately one is not or hardly informed of each other's activities or existence. Knowledge and ideas are lost in this manner. This was also the case in her many voluntary work/activities and her professional life. The youth, the bearers of our future, in particular are in need of an exchange on culture, arts, lifestyles and way of thinking. This all in and around a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.

After Ylanga's experiences, observations and evaluations of both Dutch and non-Dutch organisations which she worked for she gathered that it was time. In April 2004 she decided to take the initiative to organise FESTIVAL AFRIQUE-CARIB. The festival uses dance, music, art and dialogues to tackle issues that make our world today. Social participation, integration and international cooperation/development is a must ... after all we're living in a Global village!
